Ewing Workshops

NHPA board member Clay Wirestone helps students make nametags at the 2010 North Country Ewing Workshop in Lancaster.

The late James D. Ewing was active in national and international journalism endeavors and the owner of the Keene Sentinel. Thanks to the generosity of his estate, the NHPA is able to assemble groups of high school students, teachers and working journalists to address the occasionally knotty issues of newspapering.

The association hosts two workshops each academic year, one in the North Country and one in the southern part of the state. Reporters, editors and photographers from member papers spend the day talking about their jobs and guiding students through hands-on activities.

Topics include interview skills, the role of newspapers in democracy and tips on writing great leads. NHPA members will also critique school papers and offer resources for teachers.

If your high school would like to host a workshop, please email pressnh@gmail.com.
